When to Replace Your Vape Coil (and How to Make It Last)

Coils are the heating element in refillable vapes. They wear out over time, and a tired coil is the most common cause of bad flavour.

5 signs it's time for a new coil

  1. Burnt or harsh taste – the wick is dry or scorched.
  2. Weak or muted flavour – gunk has built up on the coil.
  3. Gurgling or spitting – flooded or worn coil.
  4. Leaking – worn seals or a flooded coil; try a fresh pod.
  5. Less vapour – the coil can't heat evenly any more.

How long should a coil last?

Roughly one to two weeks for most people, but it varies with how much you vape, your power setting and your e-liquid. Sweet dessert flavours tend to shorten coil life.

Make coils last longer

  • Prime new coils: fill the pod and wait 5–10 minutes before your first puff.
  • Don't chain vape: give the wick a few seconds to re-soak between puffs.
  • Keep it topped up: never vape a nearly empty pod.
  • Use the right power: stay within the range printed on the coil.
  • Match your e-liquid: nic salts in MTL pods, freebase in sub-ohm tanks.
